16-year-old arrested after explosive material found at Blackpool address
A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Explosives Act after explosive material was discovered at a property on Gloucester Avenue in Blackpool at around 11:30am on Wednesday 31 December 2025.
Authorities evacuated several nearby properties as a precaution while the items were examined.
Bomb disposal specialists attended the scene to assess the materials, with support from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service.
The incident, located about a mile from Blackpool promenade, involved a significant police presence.
Police announced the emergency response was expected to continue into New Year’s Eve evening and urged residents to avoid the area where possible.
Officials stated they were working with partners to secure the address and resolve the situation swiftly while reassuring the local community.
