AFCON Roundup: Nigeria Tops Group C, Tanzania Advances, Group D Still Undecided
Nigeria secured a 3-1 victory over Uganda in Fes, finishing Group C as winners with nine points and eliminating Uganda from the tournament. Raphael Onyedika scored twice, while Paul Onuachu netted his first international goal for Nigeria in four years. Uganda faced goalkeeper challenges, using three different goalkeepers after Denis Onyango's injury and Salim Magoola's red card, with Nafian Alionzi coming on. Despite resting several regulars, Nigeria dominated the game, though Rogers Mato scored a late consolation goal for Uganda.
In another Group C match, Tanzania drew 1-1 with Tunisia. Tunisia took the lead through a 43rd-minute penalty by Ismaël Gharbi, but Feisal Salum equalised early in the second half for Tanzania. Tanzania advanced to the last 16 as one of the four best third-placed teams and will face Morocco in the knockout stages, while Tunisia are set to meet Mali.
Group D remains undecided with matches between Benin versus Senegal and Botswana against DR Congo. Senegal and DR Congo each hold four points, Benin has three points, and Botswana must win to progress further in the tournament.
