The datacenter construction boom has led to pay increases for workers in those roles, typically 25 to 30% above prior salaries, sometimes even higher. Looking ahead, after experiencing a trough, the sector expects a strong recovery driven by falling interest rates and new tax incentives, fueling demand for new construction.
Education responses are adapting to these shifts: trade-school enrollment has increased, with construction trades study rising about 23% over the past year and projected to grow roughly 7% annually through 2030. Observers note that young people are following financial incentives into the trades due to AI's impact on traditional jobs, emphasizing that approximately 20% of today's jobs did not exist in 2000, suggesting new opportunities will continue to emerge in construction and related startups.
