The Los Angeles Angels are reportedly parting ways with Anthony Rendon and restructuring his lucrative seven-year, $245 million contract. According to The Athletic, the final year of Rendon's deal, which would have paid him over $38 million in 2026, has been deferred for about 3 to 5 years. Rendon, 35, is expected to be placed on the 60-day injured list when eligible and will no longer be with the team.

This arrangement has been described as one of the worst contracts in baseball history. Rendon's career peaked in 2019 while playing for the Washington Nationals, where he posted a .319 batting average with 34 home runs and 126 RBIs, helped the team win the World Series, and finished third in National League MVP voting.

Since joining the Angels, Rendon has been hampered by injuries, participating in only 257 of a possible 1,032 games. During his time with Los Angeles, he batted .242 with 22 home runs and 125 RBIs. Rendon did not play throughout the 2025 season after undergoing hip surgery before spring training. Both the Angels and Rendon's representatives agreed that it was no longer feasible for him to continue his playing career.
