Anthony Joshua Discharged from Hospital After Fatal Car Crash in Nigeria
Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital and is recovering at his home in Nigeria following a fatal car crash that claimed the lives of two close friends. The accident occurred around midday on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Sagamu when a Lexus overtook another vehicle, lost control, and collided with a stationary truck. The deceased were identified as Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, both close friends and key members of Joshua's team, who are set to be repatriated to the UK.
Joshua and his mother paid their respects at a funeral home on Wednesday amid preparations for the repatriation. Joshua was on holiday in Nigeria after his 19 December victory over Jake Paul in Miami. Preliminary findings from the Nigerian Federal Road Safety Corps suggest that excessive speed and wrongful overtaking caused the crash.
Joshua survived with minor injuries. Both Lagos and Ogun state governments provided updates on social media platform X and expressed gratitude to the staff at Lagoon Hospital Ikoyi for their care. Kolawole Omoboriowo, a close friend coordinating Joshua's logistics in Nigeria, described Ayodele as a twin brother and stated that the incident has left Joshua traumatized.
