Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, the longtime driver of boxer Anthony Joshua, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving following a crash on December 29 on the Lagos–Ibadan expressway in Nigeria. The charges also include driving without a valid licence and driving without due care and attention. Kayode is due in court on January 20.

The accident occurred when a Lexus SUV, driven by Kayode and carrying Joshua, was speeding to overtake and suffered a tyre burst. The vehicle then collided with a stationary lorry carrying soya beans that was illegally parked on the hard shoulder, approximately 30 miles from Lagos in Ogun state.

Two individuals, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, both 36 and serving as Joshua's personal trainer and strength coach respectively, died at the scene. Joshua and Kayode survived the crash with minor injuries. Kayode was taken to Lagoon hospital in Ikoyi for two days of observation and granted bail of 5 million naira but will remain in custody until bail conditions are met.

The Ogun state government reported that Joshua and another passenger were evacuated to a medical facility in Lagos. Doctors have stated both are stable and do not require emergency intervention, though a medical team will continue to monitor their condition.

This incident occurred about ten days after Joshua's victory over Jake Paul in the United States. Joshua was expected to return to boxing early in the year.
