Anthony Joshua Stable After Car Crash in Nigeria; Tributes Paid to Deceased Team Members
Anthony Joshua was involved in a car crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Sagamu in Ogun State, Nigeria, on the midday of the incident (11:00 UK time). He was in the back of a black Lexus along with two other passengers, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, both aged 36, who tragically died in the crash. Joshua and another person were injured and taken to hospital, with Joshua's condition reported as stable.
Preliminary findings from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) indicate that the Lexus was traveling beyond the speed limit and lost control while overtaking, subsequently colliding with a parked red Sinotruck. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash and FRSC released images of the damaged vehicles.
Ghami and Ayodele were close friends and integral members of Joshua’s team. Following the incident, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu spoke with Joshua, offering condolences and wishing him a speedy recovery.
Joshua had been holidaying in Africa after defeating Jake Paul in Miami about a week earlier. The boxing community, including figures such as Tyson Fury, Wladimir Klitschko, and Amir Khan, expressed condolences or well-wishes for Joshua.
