Arno Merk Eliminates Peter Wright in PDC World Championship Second Round
Arno Merk defeated two-time champion Peter Wright 3-0 in the second round of the PDC World Championship at Alexandra Palace, London, on December 23, 2025. Merk, making his debut at the event, secured the victory as Wright averaged 79.20, ending Wright's run in the tournament and preventing a potential third-round rematch with Michael van Gerwen from the 2020 final.
Merk described the win as significant and noted he is early in his development but can be dangerous if he maintains his current form. Earlier in the week, tensions had arisen between Wright and van Gerwen over comments on eyesight and other matters.
Other second-round results included Jermaine Wattimena defeating Scott Williams in a final-set decider, Callan Rydz defeating Daryl Gurney in the final set, and Ryan Meikle recovering from 0-2 to beat Jonny Tata 3-2.
