Aston Villa Stages Late Comeback to Down West Ham 3-2 at London Stadium
Aston Villa completed a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium, moving to 15 wins in 17 Premier League games and sitting just three points behind Arsenal.
West Ham took an early lead inside 30 seconds with a goal from Mateus Fernandes. The hosts retook the lead at 2-1 when Jarrod Bowen finished off a pass from Lucas Paquetá. However, Villa equalised through an own goal credited to Konstantinos Mavropanos, after Ollie Watkins deflected John McGinn’s cross into his own net.
In the second half, Morgan Rogers equalised for Villa following a right-sided cross from Youri Tielemans. Rogers then completed the turnaround by scoring the match-winning third goal, finishing a through-ball from Victor Lindelöf with about 11 minutes remaining.
Villa made six changes for the match, including Marco Bizot replacing Emi Martínez in goal and Lindelöf starting in central defence in place of Pau Torres. West Ham had a near-miss when Bowen’s potential second goal was ruled offside by a tight flag.
West Ham remain in the relegation zone after this defeat and have not kept a clean sheet since August 31.
