Bari Weiss to Moderate CBS News Town Hall with Erika Kirk on Grief, Faith, and Politics
Bari Weiss will moderate a CBS News town hall featuring Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk. The program is scheduled to be recorded on 10 December at 12pm in New York City and will air on 13 December at 8pm.
The town hall will focus on themes including grief, faith, and politics, reflecting the personal and political journey of Erika Kirk following the murder of her husband on 10 September. Since then, Erika Kirk has emerged as a prominent conservative voice and has spoken at the DealBook summit about healing through dialogue.
Internal materials for the event include an online form for potential attendees that asks about their political ideology, whether they are grieving, evangelical Christian status, and which religious figures they admire. A CBS News spokesperson declined to comment on the event.
Bari Weiss was appointed CBS News editor-in-chief in October with a mandate to bring more balance and diverse political perspectives to the network. Some CBS journalists questioned Weiss's lack of television experience at the time of her appointment. Prior to this town hall, Weiss organized a 10 October interview of Hillary Clinton and Condoleezza Rice conducted by Norah O'Donnell, though Weiss did not participate in that program.
