BBC Reaches Financial Settlement with Israeli Family Following Unconsented Filming after Hamas Attacks
BBC reached a financial settlement with an Israeli family from Netiv HaAsara after journalists entered their damaged home and filmed inside without consent in the days following the October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks.
The BBC News team, which included International Editor Jeremy Bowen, filmed inside the family's home near the Gaza border. The family members, Tzeela Horenstein and Simon, along with their two young children, described the intrusion as an invasion of their lives.
The Jewish News reported that the BBC paid £28,000 in a settlement to the family.
The October 7 Hamas attack on Netiv HaAsara involved gunmen throwing a grenade at Simon and attempting to blow out the door with explosives; however, the door jammed and the attackers left.
This attack was part of a broader conflict that resulted in about 1,200 Israelis killed and 251 hostages taken. More than 71,260 people have been killed in Gaza since then, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
