BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2025 Shortlist Features Six Standout Athletes
The BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2025 shortlist features six exceptional athletes: Chloe Kelly, Hannah Hampton, Lando Norris, Rory McIlroy, Luke Littler, and Ellie Kildunne.
Kelly and Hampton played pivotal roles in England’s Euro 2025 final victory over Spain, with Kelly scoring the winning spot-kick and Hampton making two crucial saves. Kelly also moved from Manchester City to Arsenal in 2025, becoming both a European champion and a Champions League winner. Hampton earned the Yashin Trophy as the best female goalkeeper at the Ballon d’Or awards.
Lando Norris secured the 2025 Formula One World Championship, becoming the 11th Briton to do so after a season marked by the closest title race in 15 years, narrowly defeating Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri.
Luke Littler made history by becoming the youngest world darts champion at 17 years old, completing the PDC Triple Crown and rising to world No. 1.
Rory McIlroy won the Masters in 2025 in a playoff against Justin Rose, completing his career Grand Slam and contributing three-and-a-half points to Europe’s Ryder Cup victory.
Ellie Kildunne was instrumental in England’s Women's Rugby World Cup triumph, scoring five tries across the tournament. Despite missing the quarter-final with concussion, she scored in the semi-final and final and also contributed to England’s Six Nations success.
The Sports Personality of the Year ceremony will take place in Salford on 18 December, featuring live public voting during the show.
