Beeple's Autonomous Robot Dog Installation Goes Viral at Art Basel
Beeple unveiled an Art Basel installation featuring autonomous robot dogs adorned with oversized celebrity heads, including Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Andy Warhol, and Beeple himself. These robots performed a choreographed routine while printing physical art pieces on the ground, each paired with a corresponding NFT. The AI within the dogs generated artistic outputs by applying artist-inspired filters, resulting in a generative-art-like collection. Visitors were able to trigger the prints, collect the physical pieces, and later claim the linked digital NFT versions.
The installation attracted viral attention and extensive coverage across art, technology, and culture media outlets. Following the opening weekend, Beeple's Regular Animals NFT collection reportedly reached a floor price of about 10.9 ETH, roughly $35,000 at the time. The work received public praise from figures such as Cozomo de Medici on X. Beeple highlighted the influence of technology giants and algorithms on worldview, emphasizing AI and platform roles in shaping perception.
