Beeple's 'Regular Animals' Robots Featuring Notable Figures at Art Basel Miami Beach Produce Blockchain-Logged Prints and NFTs
Beeple's 'Regular Animals' installation is featured at Art Basel Miami Beach, running through December 7, 2025, as part of Art Basel's Zero 10 program. The installation consists of four-legged robots that wear sculpted heads resembling notable figures such as Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, and Beeple himself. These robotic animals roam the venue equipped with cameras and a dye-sublimation printer that produces prints on site.
The printed outputs are tied to blockchain-logged 'memories,' with some prints incorporating codes that enable visitors to claim NFTs. During a Wednesday distribution at the event, 1,024 free prints and 256 free NFTs were given out. VIP preview pieces sold out quickly, although the robot unit with the Bezos head was not for sale during the VIP preview. Each robot was priced at $100,000, aside from the Bezos-head unit, which was withheld from sale at the preview.
Beeple describes the project as a critique of algorithmic control, integrating blockchain technology to log the robots' memories while AI reinterprets what viewers see. Prints come with a unique disclaimer labeling the artwork as GMO-free organic dog waste.
This installation builds on Beeple's previous prominence in the NFT space, notably his 2021 NFT artwork 'Everydays: The First 5000 Days,' which sold for $69.3 million at Christie's auction house. After a cooldown in 2022, NFT sales experienced a 78% increase by July 2023, even as overall trading volume declined approximately 45%. The installation thus intersects physical robotic art with blockchain and NFT technology, continuing Beeple's exploration of digital and algorithmic themes.
