Bhutan Launches TER, a Gold-Backed Token on Solana Blockchain
Bhutan has launched TER, a gold-backed token issued on the Solana blockchain. The token is issued via Gelephu Mindfulness City and custodied by DK Bank, Bhutan’s first licensed digital bank. TER is backed by physical gold and aims to provide digital custody and on-chain transparency for investors.
In the initial phase, TER can be acquired directly through DK Bank. Gelephu Mindfulness City is a special administrative region created to attract global investment and integrate digital assets as part of Bhutan’s blockchain strategy.
TER is designed to serve as a bridge between traditional stores of value and blockchain-based finance. This launch mirrors a similar trend seen in Kyrgyzstan, which introduced the USDKG gold-backed stablecoin, highlighting a movement among smaller nations to issue asset-backed digital currencies tied to audited reserves.
