Biff Poggi Embraces Interim Role Amid Michigan Coaching Changes
Michigan football underwent a significant coaching change following the firing of Sherrone Moore for cause after officials described an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Biff Poggi was named interim head coach and is set to lead the team in the Citrus Bowl against Texas on New Year’s Eve.
Poggi brings limited head coaching experience at the Power Five level, having only served as a head coach at Charlotte. His connection to Michigan football dates back to 2016, when he worked as an analyst for the program. He returned in 2021 as associate head coach and advisor to Jim Harbaugh.
Michigan's athletic director, Warde Manuel, has interviewed Poggi as part of the search for a full-time head coach. Poggi has acknowledged being considered for the permanent position, having had multiple interviews, and stated he would accept the job if offered, though no decision has been finalized.
Poggi highlighted his deep ties to Michigan, both professionally and personally. His son, Henry Poggi, played for Michigan and currently works as an investment banker. Additionally, two of his daughters are Michigan alumni, with one pursuing a career in medicine and the other already a doctor.
The team finished the regular season with a 9-3 record, concluding with a loss to Ohio State in the season finale.
