Binance Co-CEO Yi He's WeChat Account Hacked to Promote Meme Coin MUBARA
Binance co-CEO Yi He’s WeChat account was hacked and used to promote the memecoin MUBARA in a pump-and-dump scheme shortly after her appointment as co-CEO. The attackers exploited the compromised account to manipulate trading, creating a fake endorsement that spread through WeChat and caused a spike in trading volume and price on Dexscreener before the price eventually reversed as selling continued.
On-chain data revealed that two wallets accumulated about 21.16 million MUBARA tokens by spending 19,479 USDT across PancakeSwap routes. Subsequently, 11.95 million MUBARA were sold for 43,520 USDT, leaving 9.21 million tokens (worth approximately $31,000) still in inventory, with profits nearing $55,000.
Yi He stated that she no longer uses WeChat and that the phone number linked to the account was taken over, preventing her from regaining access. Binance founder Changpeng Zhao attributed the breach to weak Web2 security, warned against buying meme coins tied to hacker posts, and reiterated that the WeChat account was hacked.
The exploit occurred less than a week after Yi He’s elevation to co-CEO during Blockchain Week. Binance has not issued any comment beyond the warnings given by Zhao and Yi He.
