Bitcoin Rises Amid S&P 500 Record and Mixed Tech Sentiment in Asia-Pacific Markets
Bitcoin trades around $92,331, up 2.4%, as Asian stocks rise following a fresh S&P 500 record. However, gains in Bitcoin have been limited by a lack of firm dip buying and more than $220 million in long liquidations today, suggesting traders are reducing leverage.
Data from SoSo Value indicates over $223 million in net inflows into US spot Bitcoin ETFs on Thursday, marking the strongest inflows in 20 days. These flows may reflect short-term positioning rather than durable institutional demand and could reverse if equities wobble. Near-term Bitcoin movements depend on Federal Reserve signals, Treasury reactions, ETF flows, and ETH/BTC momentum—the rising ETH/BTC ratio suggests capital rotation into Ethereum as a gauge of risk appetite.
On the global macro front, the Federal Reserve has delivered a third consecutive rate cut with a softer stance. The MSCI All Country World Index hit a new closing high, while the dollar index remains near a two-month low around 98.30. The S&P 500 posted its highest close in history, about 42% above the April 2025 low. Fed rate futures imply approximately 75.6% odds of holding rates steady at the January 28 meeting, although markets still price in two cuts in 2026 despite the Fed projecting only one.
Asia-Pacific equities rose about 0.7% excluding Japan, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 up roughly 1%. SoftBank shares jumped about 6% on reports it may acquire Switch Inc, signaling demand for AI infrastructure.
In the U.S. tech and AI sector, sentiment remains mixed. Oracle shares fell approximately 13% due to weak AI-related guidance, while Broadcom beat revenue estimates but warned of narrowing margins because of AI, causing a roughly 5% decline in its shares.
