BlackRock Names Bitcoin ETF a Top Investment Theme for 2025 Despite Price Slump
On December 22, 2025, BlackRock announced that the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) is among its top three investment themes for 2025. The other two are the iShares 0-3 Month Treasury Bond ETF (SGOV) and the iShares Top 20 U.S. Stocks ETF (TOPT).
Since January 2025, IBIT has attracted over $25 billion in inflows, making it the sixth most popular ETF by inflows this year. However, Bitcoin has experienced a year-to-date decline of more than 4%, with IBIT reflecting a similar performance. The current Bitcoin price stands around $89,127.04.
BlackRock's move signals a conviction that Bitcoin deserves a place in diversified portfolios, even as traditional assets such as cash and stocks continue to outperform. Analysts emphasize that BlackRock's focus on IBIT reflects a long-term belief in Bitcoin rather than a short-term revenue-driven strategy. This is notable since IBIT has underperformed compared to other BlackRock ETFs like IAU.
