Bomb disposal robot destroys box of unsent Labour MPs' Christmas cards near Parliament
A Metropolitan Police bomb disposal robot destroyed a box of unsent Labour MPs' Christmas cards that caused a lockdown around Parliament.
Roads around Parliament Square were blocked at about 07:30 GMT to allow the robot to inspect a package left in Victoria Tower Gardens; the area reopened about an hour later.
Following the investigation, the item was declared non-suspicious.
Remnants recovered included parts of Christmas cards drawn by children, with some bearing MPs' addresses.
Sky News reported that some cards were in a box bearing the name of Housing Minister Miatta Fahnbulleh, while others were addressed to Housing Committee Chair Florence Eshalomi.
Both MPs were approached for comment; however, police do not comment on packages once they are declared safe.
Unattended packages around Parliament commonly cause road closures in the heavily policed and congested area.
