Bondi Police Officer Wakes from Coma Following December Terror Attack
PC Scott Dyson, a Bondi Police officer injured in the terror attack at Archer Park near Bondi Beach on 14 December, has emerged from a medically induced coma after undergoing daily surgeries. His family has described him as getting stronger.
The attack resulted in 15 fatalities and injured dozens of people. The suspect, Sajid Akram, 50, was killed by police at the scene, while his son, Naveed Akram, 24, has been charged with 59 offences, including 40 counts of attempted murder, discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, displaying a prohibited terrorist organisation symbol, and placing an explosive near a building with intent to cause harm.
Probationary constable Jack Hibbert, four months into his role and also injured during the incident, has been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home according to his family.
The attackers allegedly threw homemade bombs at the crowd near Bondi Beach; however, these devices did not detonate.
Naveed Akram has been transferred from hospital to prison. Health officials report that 12 patients remain hospitalized, with four in a critical but stable condition.
