Boxing World Mourns Loss of Anthony Joshua's Close Associates in Lagos Car Crash
Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk have offered condolences following a tragic car crash in Lagos that claimed the lives of Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, two close associates of boxer Anthony Joshua. Joshua himself was injured in the crash and hospitalized in Lagos but is reported to be in stable condition.
The incident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Makun on Monday morning. Preliminary findings from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) indicate that the Lexus vehicle was speeding while attempting an overtaking maneuver. During this maneuver, the car suffered a tire burst, lost control, and collided with a stationary truck.
Latif Ayodele, known as Latz, served as Joshua's personal trainer, while Sina Ghami was his strength and conditioning coach. Both men had close professional and personal ties to Joshua, who had posted Instagram footage of him and Ayodele playing table tennis just hours before the crash.
Joshua's camp confirmed the deaths of Ghami and Ayodele. Nigerian President Bola Tinubu spoke with Joshua and his mother, offering condolences and assuring that Joshua is receiving the best possible care. Authorities in Ogun state noted that Joshua did not require emergency medical intervention at the scene and narrowly escaped death.
Oleksandr Usyk expressed his disbelief over the loss, sharing sincere condolences and emphasizing that Ghami and Ayodele were not only members of Joshua's team but also friends.
