Brigitte Bardot Foundation Warns of Scam Memorabilia Following Actress' Death
The Brigitte Bardot Foundation has issued a warning about scam memorabilia falsely claiming to fund its animal welfare work. The foundation states that online offers using Bardot's image, including photographs and AI-assisted montages, are crude fabrications that are not endorsed by them and will be pursued legally.
Brigitte Bardot, who died aged 91 last Sunday, was a major film star appearing in nearly 50 films such as And God Created Woman and Contempt. She retired from acting in 1973 and founded the animal welfare foundation approximately 13 years later.
Her death sparked tributes in France, with President Emmanuel Macron calling her a legend of the century.
In later life, Bardot courted controversy due to remarks about Muslims, gay people, and the #MeToo movement, and was fined five times for inciting racial hatred.
Her funeral is scheduled for Wednesday in Saint-Tropez and will be a private, no-frills burial in a cemetery overlooking her home and the Mediterranean.
