Brisbane Heat Chase Record Total to Defeat Perth Scorchers in High-Scoring BBL Clash
On 19 December 2025 at the Gabba, the Brisbane Heat achieved a remarkable eight-wicket victory over the Perth Scorchers by chasing down a challenging total of 258-2 during Big Bash League season 15.
The Perth Scorchers set a formidable target of 257-6, fueled by standout performances from Finn Allen, who scored 79 off 38 balls, and Cooper Connolly, who contributed 77 off 37. The match featured an unprecedented 18 sixes from the Scorchers, setting a new BBL record for the most sixes in a single innings.
Brisbane Heat matched that six-hitting prowess, also striking 18 sixes, bringing the combined total to 36 maximums — the highest ever in a Big Bash match. The match aggregate of 515 runs marked the highest scoring encounter in BBL history.
Central to the Heat's successful chase was a commanding 212-run partnership between Matt Renshaw and Jack Wildermuth. Renshaw scored 102 off 51 balls, while Wildermuth remained unbeaten on 110 off 54. Renshaw was initially given out but was recalled after video replays confirmed a front-foot no-ball by Perth's Jhye Richardson. The Heat lost Colin Munro on the first ball of their innings.
Injuries affected the Heat as captain Nathan McSweeney sustained a left ankle injury that ended his participation early in the Scorchers' innings. Later, Max Bryant retired hurt with a dislocated left shoulder in the final over. Despite these setbacks, Wildermuth hit the winning runs in what has been described as one of the greatest Big Bash games ever.
The match drew an attendance of 24,277 spectators and is regarded as the Heat's greatest run chase to date.
