Skipton, North Yorkshire, has been named Britain's happiest place to live in 2025 according to Rightmove's annual 'happy at home' index. The town rose to first place after ranking sixth last year and second in 2020, marking its continued ascent in the study.

Richmond upon Thames in London secured second place, while Camden, also in London, achieved third place, marking its first podium finish in the 14 years of the survey. The full top ten list includes Skipton, Richmond upon Thames, Camden, Harrogate, Woodbridge, Altrincham, Macclesfield, Stirling, Cirencester, and Hexham.

The survey, which included more than 19,500 participants who voluntarily opted in to receive Rightmove communications, links happiness with factors such as access to nature and green spaces, friendliness of residents, access to essential services, affordability, and a feeling of being able to be oneself in the community. Skipton offers an average asking price of £326,093, which is below the UK national average of £364,833.

Regionally, residents in the South West are the happiest, while those in the East Midlands are the least happy. Scotland's happiest place is Stirling, while Anglesey ranks highest in Wales. The study also highlights that happiness with one's living environment tends to increase with age, potentially due to larger housing budgets as people grow older.
