British 13-year-old boy stabbed to death in Portugal amid domestic violence investigation
Alfie Hallett, a 13-year-old British boy, was stabbed to death at the scene in Tomar, central Portugal. The alleged attacker, believed to be Alfie's mother's former partner, also died. Police are investigating both deaths amid a domestic violence context.
Alfie's mother was found showing signs of restraint and assault and was hospitalised. Authorities were alerted to the incident by the National Republican Guard (GNR) amid a domestic violence call. Inside the house, there was a strong smell of gas that subsequently led to an explosion, which injured a GNR officer.
The alleged perpetrator had a prior prison sentence for aggravated homicide. The family had been flagged previously after domestic violence cases registered in 2022 and 2023.
Local sports clubs, including Sport Club Operário de Cem Soldos and Chamusca Basket Clube—both basketball teams in the region—paid tribute to Alfie, noting his participation in their teams.
The British Foreign Office stated it is in contact with local authorities and stands ready to provide consular support.
