Brooks Koepka Leaves LIV Golf After Three Years to Prioritize Family
Brooks Koepka, the 35-year-old American five-time major champion, has announced his decision to quit LIV Golf after a three-year stint. Koepka, who joined LIV in 2022 and became the first LIV player to win a major by capturing the 2023 PGA Championship, won five LIV events during his time with the league.
His departure stems from a desire to prioritize family and spend more time at home. This decision was described as an amicable mutual agreement between Koepka and LIV management, with Koepka set to stop competing after the 2025 season.
LIV Golf has undergone leadership changes alongside Koepka's exit, naming Talor Gooch as captain of the Smash team and Scott O’Neil as LIV CEO.
According to PGA Tour policy, players who join rival leagues must observe a one-year sit-out period. Following this, Koepka would have access to participate on the European Tour. The recent LIV season ended on 24 August 2025.
The PGA Tour issued a brief statement acknowledging Koepka's move, wishing him and his family continued success while asserting it remains the best environment for golfing greatness. Meanwhile, Koepka's representatives emphasized that his family has guided his decisions and that he remains passionate about golf, promising to keep fans updated on his future.
Koepka's departure as the first LIV defector to leave the league raises questions about how the PGA Tour will handle a potential return by the star golfer.
