California Governor Gavin Newsom launched a new state website page criticizing former President Donald Trump by highlighting his pardons of crypto-related figures. The page, titled "Tracking Trump’s Top 10 Criminal Cronies," spotlights individuals including Changpeng Zhao (CZ), Ross Ulbricht, and the BitMEX co-founders.
The site features stylized mug shots of the highlighted individuals stamped with the word FELON, framing Trump as someone who elevates or protects criminals. Newsom's page quotes him accusing Trump of being a felon who surrounds himself with scammers and drug traffickers. The White House did not respond to CoinDesk's request for comment regarding the page.
Newsom has gained national prominence and is widely considered a potential Democratic presidential candidate for 2028. He often uses social media to mock Trump. Additionally, the page asserts California's claim that crime levels in the state have declined.
