Cameron Green breaks IPL record as Kolkata Knight Riders sign him for £2.06m
Cameron Green has been signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders for £2.06 million (A$4.17 million) for the 2026 IPL season, setting a new record for overseas players in the Indian Premier League.
The 26-year-old Australian all-rounder becomes the third-most expensive player overall in the IPL, behind Rishabh Pant (£2.2 million) and Shreyas Iyer (£2.18 million).
The auction took place in Abu Dhabi, with bidding primarily between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings, with Kolkata ultimately prevailing.
Green, who previously played for Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, missed the 2025 season due to back surgery. He learned of his signing while preparing for the third Ashes Test against England.
In his IPL career spanning 29 matches, Green has averaged 41.6 with the bat at a strike rate of 153.7, with a top score of 100 not out. With the ball, he has taken 16 wickets at an average of 41.5 and an economy rate of 9.07.
In the 2024 season, he scored 452 runs for Mumbai Indians, boasting an average of 50.22 and a strike rate of 160.28.
