Cessna C550 Linked to Former NASCAR Driver Greg Biffle Crashes in North Carolina
A Cessna C550 aircraft, tail number N257BW, crashed at Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina around 10:20 a.m. ET during takeoff shortly after 10 a.m. The plane is owned by GB Aviation Leasing LLC, a company owned by Greg Biffle, the former NASCAR Cup Series driver. The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office confirmed there were fatalities, though the number of people on board and their identities have not been released.
The Federal Aviation Administration stated that the crash occurred at approximately 10:20 a.m. ET. Both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident, with the NTSB leading the probe. Video footage from the scene showed first responders attending to the site amid flames and debris, some of which was reported on the ninth hole of the nearby Lakewood Golf Club.
Statesville Regional Airport serves as a corporate aviation hub for several Fortune 500 companies and NASCAR teams. Greg Biffle, 55, is known not only for his racing career but also for previous charity flights, including delivering supplies after Hurricane Helene in North Carolina.
