Channel Tunnel Disruption Resolved After Power Fault and Train Failure
A fault with the overhead power supply and a failed Le Shuttle train caused blockage on all Channel Tunnel routes on Tuesday, leading to major disruption of Eurostar and Le Shuttle services between the UK and France.
Repair work to fix the power issue continued overnight, with the Channel Tunnel rail lines reopening in both directions on Wednesday morning, allowing services to resume.
Most Eurostar services to and from London St Pancras departed Wednesday morning; however, three cancellations remain affecting services to Paris Gare du Nord, Brussels Midi, and Amsterdam Centraal.
Eurostar announced plans to run all services on Wednesday but warned of potential knock-on delays and last-minute cancellations, advising passengers to check live updates.
Passengers affected by the disruption are entitled to enhanced compensation, including a full (100%) refund of their ticket and an additional 150% of the ticket price as an e-voucher.
Le Shuttle services departing from Folkestone have returned to normal operation, though delays of about an hour persist at Calais.
The disruption caused thousands of travelers to experience significant delays on New Year’s Eve, with crowds stranded at London St Pancras station, some spending the night on trains, and others seeking alternative travel routes.
