Charlotte Niddam, Educated in Britain, Among Missing After Crans-Montana Fire
Charlotte Niddam, a 15-year-old girl educated at Immanuel College in Bushey, Hertfordshire, has been reported missing following a fire at the Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, in the early hours of New Year's Day. Charlotte's family had sold their British home in March and relocated back to France.
The tragic incident took place at around 1:30am local time when fountain sparklers mounted on champagne bottles ignited the ceiling of the bar. Swiss authorities have confirmed that 40 people died and more than 100 were injured, with several victims still unidentified.
Crans-Montana is a ski resort near the French border, approximately 62 miles away, and is popular with European tourists. Most of those missing or injured are Swiss, French, and Italian. Charlotte regularly spent time in Crans-Montana and had advertised babysitting services on the resort's website.
Immanuel College issued a statement expressing prayers for a miracle for Charlotte and urged the community to support her family. Coverage has also mentioned a memorial established near the Le Constellation bar and survivors receiving treatment in burns units across Europe.
