China Postpones Japanese Film Releases Amid Diplomatic Tensions
China has postponed the release of at least two Japanese films: "Cells at Work!" and "Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Super Hot! The Spicy Kasukabe Dancers." There is also a possibility that "Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle" may be suspended, although CCTV did not specify the duration of the suspension. Ticket sales for "Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle" have reportedly fallen.
CCTV reported strong dissatisfaction among Chinese audiences toward "Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle" following remarks made by Sanae Takaichi in the Japanese parliament on 7 November. Takaichi referenced potential military action if China attacked Taiwan, escalating tensions between the two countries.
In response, Beijing has urged Chinese citizens to avoid travel to Japan and advised students to reconsider studying there. This diplomatic friction has impacted Japanese tourism as China remains a major source of visitors, with almost 7.5 million arrivals in the first nine months of the year.
Consequently, Japanese tourism, airline, and retail stocks have fallen sharply as markets weigh the impact of China's response.
