Chinese Military Conducts Large-Scale Drills Around Taiwan as Warning Against External Interference
Chinese air, sea, and rocket forces have conducted large-scale drills around Taiwan, described as a stern warning against Taiwan independence and external interference. The Taiwan Defence Ministry reported detecting 89 Chinese military aircraft and drones, with 67 entering Taiwan's response area.
The exercises include air-sea-rocket components focusing on sea-air combat readiness, joint seizure of comprehensive superiority, and port blockades. Drill areas cover the Taiwan Strait and zones north, southwest, southeast, and east of Taiwan, including Taiwan's territorial waters.
This marks the first large-scale drill where the command publicly stated the goal of all-dimensional deterrence outside the island chain. Senior Colonel Shi Yi said the drills are a stern warning to separatists and external interference forces and are legitimate for safeguarding sovereignty and national unity.
The drills follow Beijing's anger at US arms sales to Taiwan and a recent statement by Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi about potential involvement if China acts. Taiwan's transport ministry is planning flight diversions.
Taiwan's Defence Ministry reports rapid response exercises underway, with forces on high alert. Taiwan has called China the aggressor and the biggest destroyer of peace, with the transport ministry diverting international flights or providing alternative routes.
