Chinese Robotaxis to Launch in London in 2026 with Lyft and Uber Partnerships
Lyft and Uber have announced plans to deploy Baidu Apollo Go autonomous taxi technology in London, with testing set to begin in 2026.
Lyft intends to start tests involving dozens of Apollo Go cars in London during 2026 and aims to create a hybrid network combining autonomous and human-driven vehicles.
Similarly, Uber's testing with Baidu Apollo Go in London is expected to commence in the first half of 2026 and will complement its existing autonomous operations based on Wayve technology.
Previously, Waymo had also announced plans to roll out autonomous taxis in London, making Baidu Apollo Go the third major autonomous taxi operator in the city.
Baidu Apollo Go is Asia's leading autonomous ride-hailing service, currently operating across 22 cities and delivering around 250,000 fully driverless rides weekly. Their RT6 electric vehicles are specifically designed for rideshare services.
This development aligns with the UK government's initiative to legislate driverless vehicle use and to establish London as a European frontrunner in autonomous mobility.
