Civil Service Pension Scheme Faces Criticism Over Delays in Backdated Payments
A retiree of the civil service pension scheme MyCSP was owed a backdated pension payment of £21,300, which was only paid five months after leaving service. Despite repeated complaints to MyCSP, the retiree had not received a response. The Pensions Ombudsman has stated that evidence is needed to show that MyCSP did not respond to inquiries, prompting questions on how such evidence can be provided.
The National Audit Office had previously criticized MyCSP in June for failures in service, highlighting delays in pension valuations and payments amidst a surge in complaints. Recent developments include Capita taking over the MyCSP contract from the Cabinet Office this month.
There is currently a dispute between the Cabinet Office and the employer: the Cabinet Office claims it is waiting for information from the employer, while the employer asserts that the required information was provided weeks ago. MyCSP, while claiming to maintain high standards of service, did not comment on this particular retiree's experience. The backdated pension was eventually paid six days after The Guardian's inquiry.
