Coinbase Expands Reach of Stablecoin-Based AI Agent Payments Tool with x402 V2
Coinbase has released x402 V2, the latest version of its stablecoin-based autonomous payments protocol designed for AI agents. This update enhances developer capabilities by allowing them to combine payments, enable secure wallet access, and add new features through a modular design.
x402 V2 introduces several new features, including wallet-based identity that eliminates the need for repayment on every call, automatic API discovery, dynamic payment recipients, and expanded support for more blockchain networks and fiat currencies via CAIP standards. It also offers a fully modular software development kit (SDK) for custom networks and schemes.
Building on the earlier x402 release and the x402 Bazaar discovery layer for AI agents introduced earlier this year, x402 V2 aims to provide a cleaner, extensible, future-proof, and unified payment model that works for both agents and humans. This update signals Coinbase's intention to integrate its autonomous payments tool into more existing services and increase interoperability across platforms.
