College Football Playoff Quarterfinals: Indiana, Oregon, Ole Miss, and Miami Advance
Indiana (14-0) defeated Alabama 38-3 in the Rose Bowl College Football Playoff (CFP) quarter-final. Fernando Mendoza threw for 192 yards and three touchdowns as Indiana advanced to the Peach Bowl to face Oregon. Indiana outgained Alabama on the ground with 215 rushing yards compared to Alabama’s 193 total yards. Key contributors for Indiana included Kaelon Black with 99 rushing yards and a touchdown, and Roman Hemby with 89 yards and a touchdown. This victory marked Indiana’s first bowl win since the 1991 Copper Bowl and their first Rose Bowl victory. Alabama suffered their program’s worst-ever bowl defeat and the largest margin of loss since 1998.
Meanwhile, Oregon shut out Texas Tech 23-0 in the Orange Bowl. Davison rushed for two touchdowns, and Mato Uiagalelei forced a fumble that led to a Ducks score. Oregon will play against Indiana, the winner of the Indiana-Alabama matchup, in the Peach Bowl.
In other quarter-final action, Ole Miss defeated Georgia 39-34 in the Sugar Bowl. Lucas Carneiro kicked a Sugar Bowl-record pair of field goals from 47 and 56 yards in the first quarter. De’Zhaun Stribling contributed 122 receiving yards, while Kewan Lacy ran for 99 yards and two touchdowns. Ole Miss advances to the Fiesta Bowl semifinal against Miami.
Miami upset Ohio State 24-14 in the CFP quarter-finals and will face Ole Miss in the Fiesta Bowl semifinal on January 8.
