Cooper Flagg Sets Youngest 40-Point Game Record, But Dallas Mavericks Fall to Utah Jazz
Cooper Flagg scored 42 points to become the youngest player ever to reach that many points in an NBA game, breaking LeBron James’s previous record of 37 points set on December 13, 2003.
Flagg also contributed 7 rebounds and 6 assists, making him the fifth rookie in the last 15 years to record at least 40 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists in a game.
Despite his efforts, the Dallas Mavericks lost 140-133 to the Utah Jazz.
Flagg scored 12 points in the fourth quarter and used a strategic missed free throw to create a carom which teammate Max Christie secured; Christie was then fouled with 3.9 seconds left, sending the game into overtime.
However, the Jazz capitalized on an 11-0 run during overtime to secure the victory, with Flagg not scoring in the extra period.
Flagg, who was the No. 1 overall pick, has averaged 25.7 points over his last seven games.
The Mavericks were also short-handed due to injuries during the game.
