Craig, one of Africa's largest male elephants known for his remarkable tusks, died of natural causes at Amboseli National Park in southern Kenya at the age of 54. The Amboseli Trust for Elephants confirmed his death on Saturday morning.

He belonged to the rare 'super tusker' class, a select group of bulls distinguished by exceptionally large tusks, with each of Craig's two tusks weighing over 45 kilograms. The Kenya Wildlife Service described Craig as an icon of successful conservation, noting that he died peacefully.

Craig was regarded as a living monument to Africa's natural heritage and fathered many calves during his lifetime. In 2021, he gained recognition outside wildlife circles when he was named an ambassador for the Tusker beer brand.
