Cris Collinsworth Faces Scrutiny Over Comments on Marshawn Kneeland's Suicide During Cowboys Game
Cris Collinsworth faced scrutiny for mentioning Marshawn Kneeland’s suicide during the Dallas Cowboys’ Sunday Night Football loss to the Minnesota Vikings, as well as for referencing a hypothetical trade involving Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers.
Marshawn Kneeland died by suicide on November 6; Texas authorities reported that his death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a police pursuit that reached speeds of 160 mph. Initially, officers did not realize Kneeland was the suspect behind the wheel, mistaking the vehicle for one involved in a stolen-car pursuit.
Kneeland’s girlfriend Catalina, family, and teammates were deeply affected by his death. The NFL stated that it had offered support and counseling resources and noted that it had been in contact with the Cowboys to provide assistance.
Kneeland was drafted 56th overall in 2024 from Western Michigan. Over three seasons, he accumulated a total of 149 tackles and 12.5 sacks, with his 2023 stats including 57 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. Notably, the day before his passing, Kneeland scored his first career touchdown on a blocked punt against the Arizona Cardinals.
Both the Dallas Cowboys and the NFL mourned Kneeland's death, highlighting the impact on the team and the league.
