Crypto Hack Losses Fell 60% in December 2025 to $76 Million, PeckShield Reports
December 2025 saw total crypto exploit losses of about $76 million, marking a 60% decrease month-over-month from November’s $194.27 million, according to PeckShield.
The largest loss in December was approximately $50 million from an address poisoning scam, where attackers use near-identical addresses to trick victims. Another significant loss of about $27.3 million was related to a private key leak tied to a multi-signature wallet.
PeckShield counted 26 major crypto exploits in December 2025, including notable incidents like a Christmas-day attack on Trust Wallet’s browser extension causing around $7 million in losses and a hack on the Flow protocol resulting in approximately $3.9 million stolen.
While this decline in losses is notable, it does not necessarily indicate a lasting shift, as persistent risks such as key leaks and browser wallet exploits remain. Security experts advise verifying destination addresses carefully, avoiding reliance on saved transaction histories, and keeping private keys offline.
Hardware wallets are widely considered among the safest options for long-term crypto storage.
