Crystal Palace Agree Club-Record £35m Fee with Tottenham for Brennan Johnson
Crystal Palace have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur on a club-record £35 million transfer fee for Brennan Johnson. This deal could surpass the club's previous record signing of Christian Benteke in 2016.
Bournemouth are also anticipated to match Palace's offer, aiming to find a replacement for Antoine Semenyo. Palace targeted Johnson for the January transfer window following the absence of Ismaïla Sarr at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Johnson, 24, joined Spurs from Nottingham Forest in September 2023 for £47.5 million but has started only six Premier League games this season. Despite limited appearances, he was Tottenham's leading scorer last season and scored the winning goal in the Europa League final.
In a recent match against Palace, Johnson came on as an 85th-minute substitute, with Spurs head coach Thomas Frank noting that Johnson remains an important part of the squad.
Should Johnson leave Tottenham, the club would seek a January replacement with players such as Yan Diomande, Maghnes Akliouche, and Kenan Yildiz linked with the club. Other clubs such as Aston Villa, Brentford, and Everton have been linked with Johnson but have not made any formal approaches.
