Daniel Andreas San Diego Faces Extradition over 2003 Animal Rights Bombings
Daniel Andreas San Diego, 47, was arrested in November 2024 in Maenan, Wales, after being on the FBI’s Most Wanted list for 15 years. He faces US federal extradition on charges related to three 2003 pipe bombings outside Chiron Corporation in Emeryville and Shaklee Corporation in San Francisco. No injuries were reported in the attacks, which were claimed by the Revolutionary Cells – Animal Liberation Brigade and linked to opposition against Huntingdon Life Sciences. If convicted, San Diego could face up to 90 years in prison.
San Diego was added to the FBI Most Wanted list in 2009 with a $250,000 reward and evaded capture for over two decades. Authorities allege he used an Irish passport under the alias Danny Stephen Webb, moving to the UK around 2005. He reportedly worked in IT and bought a house near Mold in the Conwy valley in 2018 for £223,000 in cash.
Evidence cited includes a bomb-making kit found in his car, fingerprints on chemical containers, and a wire stripper linked to copper wiring. The FBI reportedly tailed San Diego in 2003 before he disappeared after leaving a San Francisco Muni station.
Extradition hearings are ongoing at London’s Westminster Magistrates’ Court, involving discussions about political interference and potential unfair trial in the US. Concerns have also been raised about prison conditions, noting his potential classification as a high-risk prisoner. A ruling is expected from Judge Paul Goldspring in early January 2026, with final evidence and closing arguments scheduled for 8 December and 23 December 2025, respectively.
Experts note that this case occurs within the post-9/11 “green scare” era, highlighting the ongoing emphasis on prosecuting eco-terrorism and related social movements.
