Deadly Fire at Crans-Montana Ski Resort Bar Leaves Around 40 Dead and 115 Injured
A tragic fire at the Crans-Montana Le Constellation bar in Switzerland has resulted in approximately 40 deaths and around 115 injuries, many of them serious. Authorities anticipate it will take several days to identify all victims, utilizing dental and DNA analysis to ensure accurate identification before informing families.
The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, with attention focused on the bar's basement ceiling. Images suggest that sparklers or flares attached to champagne bottles may have been the ignition source. Investigators are examining whether safety standards were met, including reviewing materials used in the basement ceiling and potential cladding.
The bar is reportedly owned by a couple of French nationals from Corsica, who are currently safe but unreachable. Victims and the injured are believed to be of multiple nationalities, including France and Italy, with corresponding countries involved in response efforts and hospital care arrangements.
In response to the tragedy, Switzerland's president has declared five days of national mourning.
