Democratic Senators Urge DOJ and Treasury to Probe World Liberty Financial Over North Korea Ties
Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Jack Reed (D-RI) have called on the Department of Justice and the Treasury Department to investigate World Liberty Financial for alleged connections to illicit actors in North Korea and Russia. The request, made in a letter dated November 12, cited a September 2025 report by Accountable.US which claimed that the Trump family crypto firm sold tokens to dozens of suspicious buyers linked to a money-laundering platform, an Iranian crypto exchange, and North Korean hackers.
World Liberty Financial has denied any conflict of interest or wrongdoing in response to these allegations. The firm is connected to former President Donald Trump, who is listed as co-founder emeritus on its website. His sons Donald Jr. and Eric are described as Web3 ambassadors, and Barron Trump is noted as a DeFi visionary.
Earlier, in June, Senator Warren and Senator Jeff Merkley sent letters to MGX and Binance requesting the preservation of communications related to World Liberty Financial’s USD1 stablecoin. They sought information on whether Trump’s stake influenced the usage of the USD1 stablecoin.
It remains unclear whether this latest effort by Senator Warren and colleagues will result in a formal probe.
