Egypt Secure Late Victory Over Zimbabwe in AFCON 2025 Group Stage
Egypt defeated Zimbabwe 2-1 in their Africa Cup of Nations 2025 group-stage match at Adrar Stadium in Agadir. Prince Dube put Zimbabwe ahead in the 20th minute with a finish from the edge of the box following a cross from Emmanuel Jalai.
Egypt responded after going behind with a substitution in the 34th minute as coach Hossam Hassam replaced Emam Ashour with Mostafa Mohamed. The Egyptian equaliser came in the 64th minute when Omar Marmoush scored with a left-foot finish after a solo run down the left flank.
The winning goal arrived late in stoppage time when Mohamed Salah, who had limited club playing time recently but was given freedom to roam on the pitch, scored with a left-foot half-volley, swivelling in the penalty area. Salah was instrumental in Egypt’s attacking balance and leadership, including organising a players’ meeting without the coaching staff.
The match started with an attendance of around 10% of the 45,000-seat stadium, which gradually increased as the game progressed. Zimbabwe have yet to progress beyond the AFCON group stages.
