Elon Musk Discusses DOGE Program, Immigration, AI, Mars, and Security Concerns
Elon Musk revealed that audits from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an initiative originating from online suggestions during the early Trump administration, identified $100-200 billion per year in so-called zombie payments. He said DOGE helped reduce funding for wasteful programs, though he would not pursue the initiative again due to political pushback and would instead focus on his companies.
On immigration, Musk argued that current controls on illegal immigration are insufficient, burdening public resources and increasing labor-market pressures as automation grows. He called for retraining programs and new social support to address these challenges.
Regarding artificial intelligence and robotics, Musk warned about employment disruptions from AI advancements. He emphasized the importance of U.S. leadership in this field and noted his company xAI's work on artificial general intelligence and humanoid robots. Musk also referenced simulation theory as a framework for understanding future developments.
He highlighted SpaceX's Starbase in Texas and framed Mars colonization as vital for humanity's long-term survival. Musk reiterated plans to send Tesla Optimus robots to Mars by 2026.
Musk condemned the assassination of Charlie Kirk and acknowledged escalating security concerns surrounding public appearances. He described his demanding schedule of back-to-back meetings, getting about six hours of sleep, and efforts to overcome irrational fears.
