England Lionesses, Red Roses, and Europe Named on BBC SPOTY Team of the Year Shortlist
The BBC Sports Personality of the Year (SPOTY) team of the year shortlist features the England Lionesses, England Red Roses, and Team Europe.
The public will vote to determine the winner, with voting closing on 18 December at the awards night.
The England Lionesses secured their place on the shortlist after winning the Euro 2025 final, beating Spain on penalties. This marked the first senior England team to win a trophy abroad and the second country to retain the Euros.
The England Red Roses also achieved success by winning the 2025 Women's Rugby World Cup on home soil, defeating Canada 33-13 at Twickenham in front of a record crowd of 81,885.
Team Europe retained the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black by defeating the United States 15-13. It was Europe’s fifth victory on US soil and first since 2012, with a seven-point lead entering the final day.
