Eurostar Cancels All Services from London Due to Major Channel Tunnel Disruption
Eurostar has canceled all services to and from London after a major disruption occurred in the Channel Tunnel. The suspension affects travel in both directions until further notice. The disruption was caused by overhead power-supply issues followed by a failure of a LeShuttle train. The LeShuttle car shuttle service between Folkestone in the UK and Calais in France was also disrupted and subsequently removed from operations, with resumption expected gradually from around 3:00 p.m. CET.
Eurotunnel reported a power-supply incident affecting part of the Channel Tunnel, which required a technical intervention. As a result, service has been temporarily suspended in both directions. Eurostar has advised passengers to rebook on another day with free exchanges, apologized for the disruption, and promised to provide updates.
London North Eastern Railway (LNER) offered travelers scheduled for December 30 options to use LNER services at no extra cost. Passengers may return to their home station from London King's Cross on the next available LNER service or defer Eurostar travel and use the same-day LNER ticket instead. National Rail issued a similar postponement advisory noting disruptions between London St Pancras International and Paris Nord. The BBC also reported on this guidance.
